'Can We Talk' Singer Tevin Campbell Opens Up About His Sexuality

Speaking on the theusanewstimes, Campbell considered his experience as a "previous child star," explaining how the industry looked to bundle him as a "youthful, hetero sex image" back in 1993, yet that it didn't stick.

"I don't think the sex image thing worked, yet the affection songs last," Campbell said.

He went on to explain how he won't ever attempt to "act a certain way or anything" nor did he attempt to hide any features of his identity.

Be that as it may, because of the times, "You just couldn't be [gay] in those days."

In the wake of coming out to his family around age 19 and 20, Campbell then set out on a mission to figure who he truly was in request to come to place of genuine self-acknowledgment.

"I went on the road of discovering myself. I didn't know what my identity was," he explained, later saying of his time performing Hairspray in 2004:

"Being around individuals who were like me, LGBTQ+ individuals that were living typical lives and had accomplices. I had never seen that. That was an extraordinary time in my life."

That extraordinary time seems to have carried on as Campbell currently exist in a space brimming with confidence and immense gratitude.

"What makes me happiest right presently is the way far I've come in life," he said, "You know, there are a ton of child stars that don't make it. Yet, a great deal of us do… and the way that I've embraced me."
